HOME OF THE SAINTS!
St. Mary's School offers a variety of athletics throughout the school year. SMS sports teams compete in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League. Fifth through eighth grade students with qualifying academics and discipline records may participate. The Augusta-Aiken Middle School League is a competitive league. Some teams may require tryouts. Most teams are coached by volunteers. Please contact our athletic director, Laurie Ulmer, if you are interested in coaching!
FALL SPORTS
Volleyball
Volleyball is offered to girls in grades 5th-8th. The season begins in August and ends in October, and practices are held in the St. Angela Hall. The volleyball team competes in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League, and they play in the league tournament at the end of the season. The volleyball team also competes in the annual Diocese of Charleston tournament in October.
Every summer St. Mary's School holds a week-long volleyball camp for girls rising to 5th - 8th grades. You do not need to be a student at St. Mary's School to attend this camp.
Cross Country
Boys and girls in grades 5th-8th are eligible for the cross country team, and the team practices at Village of Woodside and Hitchcock Woods. The cross country season extends from August to October, and the team competes in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League and participates in the Augusta Prep Invitational in September.
Golf
St. Mary’s School has a golf team for junior high boys and girls (grades 5th-8th). Practices are held at local country clubs and area driving ranges, and the golf team plays in weekly matches. The team finishes the season with a tournament where awards are given to the top team and the top six individuals. The golf team competes in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League.
Tennis
Tennis is offered to junior high boys and girls (grades 5th-8th). Practices are held locally in the Aiken area and the tennis team competes in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League.
WINTER SPORTS
Basketball
Junior high (5th-8th grade) boys and girls are eligible to tryout for the basketball teams (an A team and a B team), and the teams practice in St. Angela Hall. The season runs from November to February.
SMS basketball teams compete in Augusta-Aiken Middle School League. The basketball teams also have the opportunity to participate in the Diocese of Charleston State Catholic Basketball Tournament held each year in February. The location for this tournament rotates between Charleston, Greenville, Aiken, and Myrtle Beach.
Cheerleading
Cheerleading is offered for junior high girls (5th-8th grade). Cheerleading follows the basketball schedule, which begins in November and ends in February. The St. Mary's School cheerleading team has several adult sponsors who assist with training and choreography. The cheerleaders perform and cheer at all home and away basketball games for the girls' and boys' A teams.
Pickleball
Pickleball is open to boys and girls in 5th through 8th grades. St. Mary's School competes in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League.
Bowling
Bowling is open to boys and girls in the 5th through 8th grades. St. Mary's School competes in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League.
SPRING SPORTS
Track and Field
Track and Field is offered to boys and girls in grades 5th through 8th, and the track and field season extends from March until April. St. Mary’s Track and Field participants compete in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League. All meets are located at Augusta Prep.
Soccer
Boys and girls in junior high (grades 5th-8th) are eligible to tryout for the soccer team. The Soccer season begins in February and ends in April, and the teams practice at Citizens Park in Aiken. St. Mary’s School competes against other private schools in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League.
